As a prestigious wine producing country and an international surfing hot spot, Portugal is home to a new generation of winemakers who are drawing inspiration from land and sea. The moderating effect of the Atlantic Ocean is crucial to Portuguese winemaking, but its influence doesn’t stop there. These winemakers, surfers since childhood, are carrying the lessons they’ve learned while riding the waves into their professional lives. The art and craft of winemaking are deeply rooted in nature, and as such are a moving target. These winemakers discuss how Portugal’s surfing culture has informed their work on the vineyard.
