High Above the City, Portuguese Wines Soar in NYC and Chicago Tastings

Nov 07, 2019

Dozens of stories above the busy city streets, a little pocket of Portugal enchanted journalists, trade professionals, and enthusiastic wine lovers in Chicago and New York City earlier this fall. On September 30 at Mid-Club American in Chicago, and on October 2 at Manhatta in New York, U.S. wine experts and consumers had the opportunity to meet with winemakers from across Portugal while tasting the delicious and diverse wines from this dynamic winemaking country.

Over 40 producers from Vinho Verde to Algarve presented wines in a multitude of regions, styles, and grape varieties to showcase the exciting wine renaissance taking place in Portugal right now. More than 300 professionals and 250 wine-loving consumers attended the walk-around tasting, relishing the opportunity to discover new wines while mingling with winemakers in person.

While the walk-around tasting was bustling outside, some attendees dove into Portugal’s blending tradition through three seminars in each city: Explore the North, Discover the Center, and Experience the South. Each seminar featured wines from several regions and was taught by Master Sommeliers Alpana Singh and Laura Maniec Fiorvanti, as well as Eugénio Jardim, the U.S. Ambassador for Wines of Portugal.
