Portuguese food and wine tourism featured in the New York Post

A whopping 68 percent of American visitors traveling to Portugal include wine tastings and gastronomy in their plans. This number continues to see dramatic growth, according to the National Institute of Statistics in Portugal.

It’s even becoming increasingly common for Portuguese vineyards to welcome visitors walking among their grapes and sampling their work.

“We are a small country, but very rich in terroirs, which differ from region to region. Historically, our wine wasn’t that well-known, but today it’s recognized for its quality,” says Maria João de Almeida, a wine critic and author based in Lisbon.
