Quinta do Vale Meão is seen today as one Quinta_do_Vale_Meo.jpegof the Douro’s finest wineries.  It is a vineyard with a legendary past and a symbol of the respected wine maker D. Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, the celebrated Ferreirinha, who passed away in 1896. Quinta do Vale Meão remains in possession of the Ferreira family and the descendants of D. Antonia Adelaide Ferreira still manage the winery today.

The key characters at the winery are Vito and Xito Olazábal – two of the most famous and charismatic personalities in theDouro. It was in Quinta do Vale Meão that the legendary Barca Velha wine was born and it was produced here until 1998. Xito Olazábal, Vale do Meão’s winemaker, is the grandson of Fernando Nicolau de Almeida and nephew of João Nicolau de Almeida.

Rarely a vineyard or wine has been so widely talked about as Quinta do Vale Meão 1999.  Quinta do ValeMeão harvests have been praised enthusiastically by the Portuguese and international press who have described their wines as exceptional.
