Casa_Ferreirinha.jpegCasa Ferreirinha is home to the iconic Barca Velha – one of the greatest names to come from Portugal, as well as one of the rarest wines from the Douro. Barca Velha has a rich and enduring history, which began in 1952. As of today, only 17 editions have been released – all maintaining the extremely high standards required from each harvest.

There are many stories told around Barca Velha – beginning with the transportation of ice cubes to cool down the wood vats at the cellar at Douro Superior. Ice cubes would be wrapped in straw and transported on the back of donkeys, in an age where electricity had not made it to theDouroand the roads were extremely bad, or even non-existent.

Due to the unparalleled quality of the Barca Velha, the wine attracts high prices and the attention of collectors across the world.

Casa Ferreirinha has yet another wine - Reserva Especial Ferreirinha - which is only released in years where the quality does not reach the standards of a Barca Velha.

Owned by Sogrape - the biggest Portuguese producer - Casa Ferreirinha is the house with the greatest historical weight in theDouro, as well as being one of the most dynamic.
