Wines of Portugal Celebrates Leading Lights of the UK Wine Industry

Waitrose, Oddbins and The Wine Society were amongst those awarded for their outstanding contribution to the Portuguese Wine Industry at the Association of Portuguese Wine Importers Awards Dinner. The event was hosted by the Portuguese Ambassador, Dr João de Vallera, at the Portuguese Embassy in London on Wednesday 26th February.

The evening marked another successful year for Portuguese wines in the UK market and comes a week before the largest ever Wines of Portugal Annual Tasting takes place at RHS Lindley Hall in London. Waitrose won Supermarket of the Year while Oddbins took Specialist Chain of the Year. Independent Wine Merchant went to Ramsbottom based, The Vineyard, Restaurant to Viajante and Online/Mail Order to The Wine Society.

Jane MacQuitty was named Journalist of the Year recognising her commitment to the communication of Portuguese wines.

The annual APWI awards event recognises those who have shown great commitment and support to growing Portuguese wine distribution in the UK, through education, communication and sales.
