Portugal sweeps the board at the Sommelier Wine Awards
Aug 12, 2016
Portugal has been awarded 117 medals at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2016.
Portugal achieved 17 Gold medals, 33 Silver medals and 21 Bronze medals at the prestigious competition. It was a strong year for the Douro, as 'Critics choice' medals were awarded to Kopke Colheita 1984 and Quinta do Vallado Touriga Nacional 2013. The 'By the Glass' award was given to Quinta do Crasto, Late Bottled Harvest 2011, also hailing from the Douro region.
The Sommelier Wine Awards is Britain's only on-trade wine competition, focusing entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers as well as the key competition for wines trying to increase their presence in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
